Castel dell’Ovo, is the oldest castle in the city of Naples and is one of the elements that most stand out in the famous view of the gulf. It is located between the areas of San Ferdinando and Chiaia, opposite to Mergellina. Because of different events which partially destroyed the original Normanvappearance and through following reconstruction works that took place during the Angevin and Aragonese period, the architectural line of the castle changed dramatically until reaching the stage where it is today. Because of its continuous exposure to aggressive agents of the marine area it has been degraded, that made necessary a restoration work on masonry, on outdoor pavings and on parapet walls.
